Becoming an International Student

If you are interested in studying at The Maritime College from outside Canada, the process generally involves several stages.

1. Choose Your Program

Explore the programs currently available to international students and select the program that best matches your educational background, interests, and career goals.

Before applying, make sure you understand:

• Program admission requirements
• Program length and delivery format
• Tuition and other applicable fees
• Academic requirements
• English-language requirements, where applicable
• Program start date
• Any required documents or prerequisites
• Placement, practicum, or work-based learning requirements, where applicable

2. Submit Your Application

Applicants are required to provide the documentation requested by The Maritime College.

Depending on the program and your circumstances, documentation may include academic records, identification, proof of meeting admission requirements, English-language documentation, and other supporting information.

All admission decisions are subject to the College's admission requirements and applicable policies.

Submitting an application does not guarantee admission.

3. Receive Your Admission Documents

If your application is approved, The Maritime College will provide the applicable admission documentation, subject to the College's admission procedures and requirements.

International students should carefully review all documents provided by the College before making tuition payments or making travel arrangements.

4. Prepare for Your Study Permit Application

Students who require authorization to study in Canada are responsible for applying for the appropriate immigration document through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Depending on your circumstances, this may include a study permit and other documentation required by the Government of Canada.

The requirements for international students can change. Students should always consult the Government of Canada's official immigration website for the most current requirements.

A letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution may be required when applying for a study permit. Students should verify the institution's current status and applicable requirements through the Government of Canada's official Designated Learning Institution (DLI) list.

The Maritime College cannot guarantee the approval of a study permit, visa, or entry into Canada.

5. Prepare for Your Arrival

Once you have received the required authorization to study in Canada, you can begin preparing for your arrival in Halifax.

Before travelling, students should make appropriate arrangements for:

• Accommodation
• Transportation
• Health coverage and medical needs
• Financial planning
• Travel documents
• Personal identification
• Clothing appropriate for Nova Scotia's seasons
• School supplies and other personal necessities

Students should not make non-refundable travel or accommodation commitments until they have received the immigration authorization required for their circumstances.
